World champion boxer Canelo Alvarez said that brothers Jake Paul and Logan Paul are “disrespecting boxing.” Find out what the pro athlete had to say.
Jake and Logan Paul have continued to make headlines since they started to transition into professional boxing. But while many have been thrilled about their new addition to the sport, world champion boxer Canelo Alvarez begs to differ.
Nearly three years ago, YouTubers Logan and Jake Paul embarked on an endeavor that would play a major role in their years to come. The brothers decided to take their social media stardom to the world of celebrity pro boxing. Since then, the brothers have fought a total of four times, with Jake Paul showcasing devastating knockout power in his last fight and Logan Paul now set to face the legendary Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2021. Needless to say, Jake and Paul have come a long way on their boxing journeys, but it hasn’t been without stark criticism from the upper echelons of the sport.

Ranked #2 pound for pound boxer, Canelo Alvarez has recently come out to voice his opinion on the Paul brothers. In an interview with TMZ, Canelo said that because the Paul brothers are only focused on money, they show a lack of respect to boxing. In regards to Jake Paul calling out top fighters in martial arts, Canelo says he would refuse a quick payday to fight him. However, he would like to invite him to his training camp to spar him so that he can truly understand boxing. Naturally, these comments didn’t sit well with the Paul brothers. Logan Paul fired back, “I think he’s the guy who’s got caught using steroids twice. You wanna talk about ‘disrespecting boxing,’ let’s talk about a guy who didn’t play by the rules. F**k you! I think he’s salty because I get a chance to beat Mayweather and he lost to him. It’s his one loss. I get the shot that he failed to do.” Jake Paul also added, “Mcgregor will get it and maybe I’ll fight Canelo.”
Logan recently went on the Food Truck Diaries podcast and explained that fighting top-level talent does not make sense for him and his brother. Rather, the pair is focused on taking “smart fights” to build their skills up to eventually take on higher-level talent. Still, Logan fighting a guy like Mayweather is hardly taking any easy path. On the other hand, his fight with Mayweather is only an exhibition and Logan claims it is an opportunity that he simply couldn’t pass up.
All things considered, Canelo may not like the Paul brothers‘ style or antics. However, it’s hard to ignore that they are bringing more viewers to a sport that has been struggling as of late.
